01 / AVAILABILITY
Get version 0.2.3.
The Apple Silicon release is available to buy.Buy bettersync to receive your personal download link and invoice by email. Your link downloads the signed and notarized version 0.2.3 installer. Buy bettersync.
Requires macOS 26 or later. Quit Premiere, download and extract the ZIP, then open the installer to update your existing installation. Updates are installed manually; the panel does not update itself automatically. Intel Mac and Windows packages are not available yet.
The installer includes the sync engine and audio libraries and was tested in Premiere Pro 26.3.2. Broader testing with real camera recordings is continuing. Read the release notes.
02 / COMPATIBILITY
Know your setup.
You need Premiere Pro, accessible local source media, and room for the audio cache. Python and separate audio tools are included in the installer. Premiere Pro is not included.
Use ordinary camera and audio clips at normal speed. Nested sequences, multicam containers, transitions, speed changes and J/L edits are outside the current workflow. Applying a result moves clips in the current sequence. Additional tracks do not inherit existing track effects or routing. Sequence markers stay where they are. Sync before you edit.
03 / INSTALLATION
One installer. All included.
- Save your project and quit Premiere.
The installer needs Premiere to be closed before changing the extension.
- Open the installer for your computer.
On Mac, extract the installer ZIP and open the app. On Windows, open the setup EXE once that release is available. Choose Install bettersync.
- Restart Premiere and open the panel.
Choose Window → Extensions → bettersync. In the German interface: Fenster → Erweiterungen → bettersync.
The signed 0.2.3 Apple Silicon preview was checked with normal system security settings and without CEP developer mode. It requires macOS 26 or later. Use your protected release or order download link to obtain the installer.
04 / YOUR FIRST SYNC
Your clips. The same sequence.
- Start with a saved project.
Put the camera clips and external audio into one raw sequence. Make sure Premiere can find the original files.
- Open bettersync.
Check the sequence name. Use ↻ to read the current sequence after switching. Under Optionen, leave Audiokanal on Automatisch to start.
- Choose Synchronisieren.
That starts the analysis. The first launch can take over a minute. Later timings depend on the footage and computer. If you change the timeline structure after analysis starts, read the sequence again and run a new analysis before applying.
- Review the result, then apply it.
Check the matched clips, recording blocks and unresolved clips. Choose Sync in dieser Sequenz anwenden to move the clips in the same sequence. Unresolved clips go at the end. Listen and check the alignment before saving and continuing your edit. Your source files stay unchanged.
The current panel uses German button labels, including in an English Premiere installation. The labels above match the actual panel.
Optional: continue a device’s clock
Under Optionen → Timecode-Gruppen, Free Run: pro Tape/Reel or Free Run: pro Spur can place further recordings from the same device clock after an audio match anchors that clock. Only use this for one continuous Free Run clock per group, without resets on the same recording day. Separate different cameras onto their own tracks when using track groups. Leave the option off for Rec Run, unknown clocks or shared reel names. Blue result clips were placed using timecode; this does not prove a separate audio match. Real camera and recorder validation is still pending.
05 / TROUBLESHOOTING
A clip out of place?
Several clips are unmatched.
Check for recognizable shared audio in the source recordings. The engine requires at least 2.5 seconds of overlap, but that alone does not guarantee a match. Silence or unrelated sound cannot establish a match. Try selecting the channel carrying the common sound under Optionen → Audiokanal. Uncertain clips stay at the end for review.
The panel does not appear.
Quit and restart Premiere after installation. Check that the installer matches your computer and completed successfully. Only Premiere Pro 26.3.2 on the local Apple Silicon Mac has been tested so far.
The engine is missing or will not start.
Reinstall from the complete package for your operating system and processor. Copying only the panel omits the engine. Do not download individual libraries from unrelated websites.
The sequence is rejected.
Use ordinary source clips without nests, multicam containers, transitions or speed changes. Start from a raw sequence with matching video/audio in and out points.
I switched projects while it was working.
Return to the original project and sequence before applying its result. If you changed the timeline structure, read it again and start a new analysis. To work in another project, read its active sequence and start a new sync there.
The sound drifts during a long recording.
Large clock drift is flagged. bettersync does not automatically stretch the audio to correct it. Review the recording and correct drift in your editing workflow.
06 / LOCAL FILES
Your footage stays with you.
Audio analysis runs locally. bettersync keeps decoded audio, fingerprints and job reports on your computer. The PCM audio cache uses approximately 115 MB per analysed audio hour, plus fingerprints and reports.
- Mac
~/Library/Application Support/SyncBlocks/- Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\SyncBlocks
The folder name is retained for compatibility. Version 0.2.3 retains up to 2 GiB of its generated audio cache and removes older unused entries. Active jobs can temporarily exceed this limit. Legacy cache folders and job reports are not removed automatically. Reports and XML can include private filenames and paths; do not share them unreviewed. The panel’s optional diagnostic export omits media filenames, paths and raw logs.
Updating or uninstalling
Quit Premiere before running an installer. Upgrades retain a backup of the previous extension. To uninstall on Mac, reopen the installer and choose Uninstall. On Windows, use Settings → Apps → bettersync → Uninstall. Uninstalling keeps your media, projects, cache and results.
07 / WHAT’S NEW
Small tool. Clear changes.

- A 2 GiB limit for retained generated audio cache, with active jobs protected during cleanup.
- Optional local diagnostic export without media filenames, paths or raw logs; export now works inside the Premiere panel.
- Apple Silicon installer signed and notarized, with a rebuilt offline audio runtime and bundled open-source notices and source archives.
Requires macOS 26 or later. Installation and same-sequence sync were checked locally in Premiere Pro 26.3.2 without developer mode, using a controlled A/V test project. Broader real-camera testing, timecode validation and native Windows / Intel Mac checks remain pending. The Apple Silicon installer is available with a personal download link after purchase.
